Hire terms
Last updated 15 October 2026
These terms apply to equipment hired from Playday Party Hire Limited, trading as Playday Party Hire (NZBN 9429053912817). We’ll confirm the specific items, date, times, price and collection or delivery arrangements with you before accepting a booking.
Booking and payment
- An enquiry does not reserve your date.
- Your booking is confirmed when we accept it and receive the booking deposit. By ticking the box on our enquiry form, or by paying the deposit, you agree to these terms.
- The booking deposit is 20% of the hire price, with a minimum of $20. It is worked out on the equipment hire, not on any delivery charge.
- The deposit forms part of the hire price and is deducted from the balance—it is not a separate damage bond.
- Unless we agree otherwise, the remaining balance is due after the booking. You may pay it earlier if you prefer.
- Delivery, when offered, costs extra and will be quoted and agreed before the booking.
Cancellations
- Cancel at least 48 hours before the agreed booking start time and we will refund all amounts paid, including the deposit.
- If you cancel within 48 hours of the booking start time, we will keep the booking deposit. Any other amount you have paid will be refunded.
- If we have to cancel because we cannot supply the agreed equipment, we will refund all amounts you have paid. This does not limit any rights you have under New Zealand consumer law.
Collection, delivery and return
- Collection from Porirua is free. You must collect and return the equipment at the times we agree with you.
- Delivery costs extra. The delivery address, fee and arrangements will be quoted and agreed before the booking is confirmed.
- Please tell us promptly if you expect to be late. Any additional charge must be reasonable and agreed or reflect an actual extra cost caused by the delay.
Cleaning, care and damage
- Normal party mess is expected. You may return the equipment dirty and ordinary cleaning is included in the hire price.
- You are responsible for taking reasonable care of the equipment while it is in your possession and using it only for its intended purpose.
- Tell us as soon as possible if anything is lost, damaged or stops working. Do not continue using equipment that appears unsafe.
- You may be charged the reasonable cost of repairing damage beyond normal wear and tear, or replacing equipment that is lost or damaged beyond economical repair. We will explain and support any charge.
- Wooden garden games and furniture must not be left out in the rain or overnight. Swelling, warping or water damage from that is not normal wear and tear.
- There is currently no separate refundable damage bond.
Candy-floss machine safety
An adult must supervise and operate the candy-floss machine, follow the supplied instructions, keep children away from hot and moving parts, and use the machine on a stable, dry surface with a suitable power supply.
Popcorn machine safety
- An adult must supervise and operate the popcorn machine at all times. Children must not operate it. Never leave it switched on unattended.
- The kettle, oil, heat lamp and glass get very hot. Keep children back from the machine, and do not touch the kettle or the inside of the cabinet while it is on or until it has fully cooled.
- Use it on a sturdy, level table, indoors or under cover, out of the rain and away from the table edge.
- Plug it straight into a standard 10 A wall socket. Do not share a multi-box with an urn, heater or other high-power appliance.
- Follow the supplied instructions, use only the kernels and oil we supply, and do not overfill the kettle.
- If the machine smokes, smells of burning or stops working properly, switch it off, unplug it and contact us.
- Switch off and unplug the machine and let it cool before cleaning. Never put water in the kettle or immerse any part of the machine.
Gazebo safety
- Put the gazebo up and take it down the way we show you at collection. Two adults are needed.
- Secure every leg before anyone goes under it: peg it into the ground, hang one of the six supplied sandbag weights on each leg on hard surfaces, and tie off the guy ropes. Never leave it standing unsecured.
- If the wind picks up beyond a light breeze, remove the walls and take the gazebo down. Take it down before leaving it unattended or overnight if strong wind is forecast.
- Keep barbecues, heaters, candles and other open flames well clear of the roof and walls.
- If it has to be packed away wet, tell us when you return it so we can dry it. There is no charge for that.
- Damage caused by not following these steps, such as a bent frame or torn roof from wind, is not normal wear and tear. You may be charged the reasonable cost of repair or replacement, as set out above.
Our responsibilities and your rights
We will provide the agreed equipment in a condition suitable for its intended use. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, including rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986.
